On January 28 1945 Deacon Caraolina and Clara Bennett were blessed with a bouncing baby girl whom they named Vera Mae. Vera Mae was the eldest daughter of the family of nine children. Her early education and her childhood years were in Lois, South Carolina
Vera Mae married the late Roddy Jd Great, in 1967 she moved her family to Rochester Ny. She worked many years at Strong Memorial Hospital until retired. Vera Mae was a devoted mother to her children and grandchildren, also many others looked to her as a mother figure.
Vera Mae loved to cook and feed the whole neighborhood. She was so loving and friendly and greeted strangers as if she knew them for years she would always say " don't I know you " and if she didn't know you, you would have just made a life long friend.
She was know as Mommy Vera, Granny ,The Crib and Aunt Vera.
Vera Mae loved to listen to music and oh boy could he dance. She enjoyed telling jokes, cooking dinners, selling ice cream, babysitting and taking care of her dog Princess and her bird Jojo and so so much more.
Vera Mae moved back to South Carolina August of 2020. She redecicated her life to Christ she joined the New Simpson Creek in South Carolina.
The sunset for Vera Mae early in the morning of June 26 2021. She predeceased by both of her parents Deacon Carolina and Clara Bennett, her husband Roddy Grate, her som Terry " Donald " Grate her brothers Moses(Sandra), Carolina ( Enda Mae), George and Joseph Bennett. She will forever be cherished by her children Brenda Bennett Rochester First Lady Tammy Dunmore( Pastor Dellroger Dunmore)New Jersey Thomas( Patricia) Bennett South Carolina Darrin Grate Maine and Christopher Grate Rochester. Grandchildren Keyiona, Christopher, Dominique, Brianna Darrin, Rashard, Darrius, Don, Jaquanda, Libby, Sofia, Eric,Amber, Destiny, Essence, and Hakeem( predeceased) her siblings John( Christine) Billy( Willmemina) Bennett Mother Sarah Gause and Celest Bennett
