Sammy Leroy Strickland was born November 28, 1958 to Annie Bell Strickland and Willie B. Strickland in Rochelle, Georgia. Sammy and his family moved to Rochester, New York September 1968. He attended Jefferson High School. Sammy loved to play the drums and was very good at it. His true passion was cooking! Over the years he worked at various restaraunts and stores throughout Rochester and Buffalo. Everybody on the eastside knows who cooked the best gizzards and skins, Sammy Strickland! He loved his family and spending time with them. He marched to the beat of his own drum. Sammy is predeceased by his wife Ozette Strickland, mother Annie Bell Strickland, father Willie B. Strickland, sisters Willie Mae Peavy & Peggy Ann Goins(Willie), brothers Steven Strickland and General W. Peavy III. Surviving siblings include James O. Peavy (Cassandra), Valerie Simpson (Jesse), Felton Strickland (Maria), Linda Strickland (Brian), Michael Strickland (Dorothy), Lavetta Strickland-Jones (Rick), George Strickland (Eulice), Patrick Strickland (Regina), and Lydell Strickland.
