Obituary of Bernice Breland

Bernice Breland, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 5, 2023 at Upstate University Hospital. Bernice was born on January 4, 1937 in Pembroke, GA and has been a resident of Syracuse, NY for over 70 years. Bernice worked for Hampton Inn for over 25 years as an Executive Housekeeper/ Laundry Attendant, where she retired from. She was an amazing mother, sister, grandmother, great-aunt, mother in law and friend to many as she could light up any room she was in. Known as the hostess with the mostest, she enjoyed dancing and listening to music. She was a woman of God who loved her bible and was firm in her faith. She was very fond of shopping with her keen sense of fashion and was also a great cook who loved to spend time with her family and friends. Bernice is predeceased by her loving parents: Minnie Lee Santy and John Daniel Smokes Sr., her children, Diane Breland and Christopher Breland Sr, her brothers, Thomas James Smokes, Robert Santy, Joseph Santy and Edward Smokes, as well as her sisters, Doretha Smokes and Mamilee Smokes. Bernice leaves behind to mourn her passing and cherish her memory her loving children: Milford Breland Jr (Gina), Cheryl Vaughn (Herman), Ginelle Breland, Hellina Breland, Etwendia Grant, and Purvis Mickle Jr, bonus daughter Shirley Santy, 3 wonderful sisters, Shirley Orr, Geraldine Santy, and Veronica Santy, with a host of loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends who will all miss her dearl
