Houston Ray Armstrong Jr. Was born May 5, 1942 in Ellisville, Mississippi to the Late Houston Sr. and Ammie Armstrong. Houston attended Benson High School. Houston accepted the Lord in his early years in Fort Pearce, Florida in a Church of God and was a faithful servant in his grandmother's home church. The family moved to Rochester, NY in 1959 where he attended Franklin and Madison High Schools. Houston worked in various jobs while in Rochester, NY such as Kodak, Clean Brite Services & St. Mary Hospital and other companies. Houston Armstrong also known as "Sam" during his musical years. Houston was a skillful and talented drummer and writer of music. He played in many distinguished and renowned bands and groups and traveled the world. Houston also was an original member of the "Soul Brothers Five" with his brothers Charles Armstrong, the Late Moses Armstrong, Harry Armstrong and the Late Gene Armstrong. The group's name was later revised to the "Soul Brothers Six" with the addition of the family's close friend John Ellison. This group released many musical hits; one of the most popular hits was the song "Some Kind of Wonderful "which continues to be heard today on many radio stations and television commercials. Houston was blessed with five beautiful children; all of which He loved dearly. He also demonstrated great love for his extended family and always ask about the welfare of his nieces and nephews. Houston struggled with illness for a long time; yet he never complained and always managed to make others smile. Houston Ray Armstrong departed this life on Saturday, January 20th, 2018. He was presided in death by his parents the Late Ammie and Houston Armstrong Sr. two brothers the Late Gene Armstrong and the Late Moses Armstrong. He leaves to mourn his loving memories his siblings three brothers; Charles E Armstrong (Harnitha) of Tampa Florida, Lenny Armstrong of Rochester NY, and Harry Lee Armstrong of Jackson Mississippi, two Sisters; Mary McLaughlin of Rochester NY, and Linda Armstrong of Tampa Florida. He leaves to mourn five children Houston Donnell Armstrong of Rochester NY, Miguel Armstrong, Julie Armstrong, Gahdiliel Sean Armstrong, Queena Armstrong, Maurice Armstrong all of Mississippi, 11 grandchildren and a host nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
